How to choose a protective device?

Garments

Antistatic garments

The seriousness of the accidents caused by electrostatic discharges can be diminished by using the right protective garment and protective equipment. The basic materials of the antistatic garments are electrically conductive. To achieve this property, the producers add some additional stuff to the basic fabrics which can be carbon, silver, copper stainless steel or metal salt. The material including conductive stuff collects the static charge safely, and then conducts it, thus the protection remains persistant and unwashable without any need for protection against heat impacts or flame.

Fields of application: pharmacuetical industry, chemical industry, manufacturing of cosmetics, mining, grain storage facilities, agricultural plants, filling station operators, factories for the assembly of electric parts, automobile industry.

Protection against liquid chemicals

They offer protection in work areas where the workers are exposed to hazardous acidic and alkali liquids, or other chemicals.

Protection against heat and flames

Heat- and flame-protective garments ensure safety against various (radiating, convective) heat sources.

Protection against welding

The protective garment provide protection against welding and similar work.

Protection against heat and flame effect

The protective garments made of flame retardant fabrics are usually produced from 100 % cotton or from material of mixed yarns, and they get their protective properties through an additional treatment of the fabrics. These protective garments made of flame retardant fabrics are to be applied in territories where limited flammability is sufficient, however, these materials do not provide protection against intensive, long-lasting flame effect.

Fields of application: heavy industry, welding proceedings, foundry, works with molten metal.

Protection against aluminium splashes

The goal of developments of basic fabrics of special compostion, as well as of garments is to afford defence also in territories where the protective equipment is supposed to meet some individual requirements. Such specifications are fulfilled by the two-part protective garment made of basic fabrics Vinex. Its composition of Vinylal/Polinosic ensures protection against splashes of molten aluminium.

Nomex Garmets® / Nomex® quality program

The highest level of protection against heat and flame effects is provided by the inherently flame-resistant textiles. They keep their protecting ability at the same level during the whole lifetime of the product. Nomex® is the most frequently used basic material in the field of thermal protection.

The design of the garments is exactly of the same importance as the selection of the suitable fabrics, therefore, the company DuPont® has introduced a comprehensive quality assurance program.

The members of the Nomex® Quality Partner Program (spinners, weavers and manufacturers) ensure the guaranteed quality.

Vektor Work Safety, Technical Developer and Manufacturer Corp. is the only and single Hungarian member of the Nomex® Quality Partner Program in the territory of development and production of flame-resistant protective garments.

The Nomex® Program (DNP) means a kind of guarantee for the high quality of the garments, from the production of the fibres up to the ready-made product. The garments certified in accordance with the DNP are allowed to bear the Nomex® Quality Label. These labels can be general labels to certify that the garments have been made from DNP base materials. Besides, the products are subjected to the Thermo Man (heat- and flame-protection) or Arc Man (arc-protection) test, which can also be indicated.

NOMEX®

The fabrics made of Nomex® meta-aramide fibres are widely applied for production such as for fire-fighting operational garments, car racer and aviator clothes, as well as the garments of people working in hazardous industrial environments. The garments made of Nomex® material assure escaping time in case of fire, explosion, electric arc discharge, reduce the extent of the eventual burning injuries and increase the chance of survival. Furthermore, these clothings are comfortable and keep their nice appearance through several wearing cycles. (The Nomex® basic fabrics are stably withstand heat, flame and chemicals.)

In addition to its outstanding flame-retardant properties and resistance to heat effects, the material can be characterized by excellent tearing strength, wear- and abrasion-resistance, and therefore wearability for years is guaranteed, and therefore it can be used as a very economical product. The basic material does not burn and melt, is self-extinguishing, gets to char over 380°C. Furthermore, it does not generate toxic gases and smoke, and its tensile strength is of high degree. Mixed with antistatic yarn P140 the fabrics will have permanent antistatic effect. Regarding the chemical compound of the fabric, it is polyamide exclusively of aromatic binding, in other words aramide fibre. The protection is afforded by the molecular structure of the constituent fibres, and not by external chemical treatment or other procedure. As a result of this, the protecting level is permanent.

Thermo-Man® test

In the frame of the Nomex® Quality Partner Program, each fl ame-resistant garment goes through a burning test, in the course of which the achieved protection level of the developed product can be stated. The life-sized manekin bearing 122 pieces of sensors is calibrated so that it imitates the temperature of the human skin. The fl ame effect is provided by 12 propane gas burners, the time of exposition is 0,5-25,0 seconds (heat fl ow: 2,0 cal/cm2/s =84 kw/m2) After the burning test we can get some information in respect of the percentual proportion of the second- and third-degree burnings, the measure of the the total burning, the exact location of the burning injuries, as well as of the afterburning time. All fl ame-resistant garments corresponding to the requirements of the relative standard and to the Thermo-Man® test, resp. made of DNP basic fabrics (produced by a DNP member company), will get the „Thermo-Man®” label, too, indicating the guaranteed quality.

Protection against electric arc discharge

A special version of the fl ame-resistant fabrics is the system affording protection against the effects of electric arc discharge. The primary designation of the protective garments for arc- and fl ame-protection is to defend people - working in or next to electric equipment under voltage - from the heat-effects of sudden runoff and high temperature, caused by an electric arc arising from any irregularity. Furthermore, these types of garments provide defence against direct heat- and fl ame-effect for workers in boiler-rooms, as well as in territories where the common effect of contactive and radiating heat dominates. Our protective garments against electric arc discharge are manufactured from 100 % cotton textile with flame-retardant treatment, resp. from fl ame-resistant Nomex® Comfort basic fabrics.
